Pr. Jimmy Donaldson
Fear is really faith in the wrong thing, its faith in what Satan can bring about in our life. If I am fearful of dying or fearful of a sickness, it’s really faith in the wrong direction. Fear and faith are opposites. One is of the Lord (faith) and the other is not (fear).
I dealt with fear for pretty much all my teenage years. And it wasn’t just fear of the dark, it was pretty much fear of death. It caused panic attacks. On the planes, it was the worst. I thought God didn’t love me and that I was going to die. Until I decided to believe that the Word of God was in me the fear did not disappear.
Scripture says that without faith you can’t please God. When you’re activating fear you’re not activating faith, it’s one or the other. It’s a dichotomy.
Just as Peter acted in faith we too need to learn from his actions. Peter had a choice, he could walk or he could sink, it didn’t happen at the same time.
I used to suffer from depression, very deep depression. I didn’t know exactly what was happening, in the sense that there was a demonic oppression that was going on. I didn’t have my spiritual eyes open to see it. I just felt sad and I didn’t like myself, I didn’t like anything about me. When I first came to the Ministry, I went to talk to Pastor. I realized there was a powerful and manipulative demand in my life, it was dragging me down. Through God, I was able to get out of depression and anxiety.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7 – NKJV)
A lot of the times people play around with fear, giving the devil foothold into your life. Words are powerful, if you use the word ‘fear’, you’re connecting to its meaning. It’s very important that even with the words that we speak, that we don’t speak fear. Words are powerful.
Fear will make your faith inactive, it paralyzes it. Some people can be faced with a situation, and they want God to act, they try to use fear and faith to pray. Ensure that the word of God is always inside of you so that when those situations do rise and come up you identify it quickly and you counteract it with the Word of God.
Faith is of God, so when we take our eyes off of Jesus all of a sudden we’ve opened up our atmosphere or our reality to things that are not of God. So the tool really is keeping our eyes on Jesus.
Total peace means complete trust in God, to know that He has us and He handles every situation.
